Wow! You enlighten me every time you share your perspective. I am learning more and more about the difference between belief and knowing. Belief doesn't require much curiosity or interrogation, but knowing is a journey of curiosity and questions. Maybe some have no interest in knowing, and maybe some know, but then they have to admit that those they love gave them a reality built on untruths.
I continue to be enlightened and edified by your sharing of ideas and perspectives and you almost make wanna cook with the recipe sharing. And that is saying a LOT. I truly appreciate you❤️
I know, right? I don't mind cooking, but I would much rather do other things. But every week I wonder what it would be like to be the kind of person who would cook all these delicious-sounding recipes. It might even make me want to eat summer squash!
You've basically described US evangelicalism, at least white evangelicalism.
"Studies show..."
"Which studies?"
"The ones that I know must exist because what I've said is true."
"No one can find those studies."
"Well, they exist because I'm telling the truth. And if they don't exist and they were to be done, then they would show that I'm telling the truth."
"Here's a study that was done to peer reviewed standards that shows you're not telling the truth."
"That study is flawed, biased propaganda because I'm telling the truth."
"When people do what you say, the outcome is the opposite of what you claim."
"That's their problem. What I say is true."
"Here's history, science, lived experience, Bible passages, and more showing that you're wrong and there's a better way."
"Stop twisting the truth to suit your sinful desires. I'm telling the truth. What I say is true because I've said it and lots of people like me also say it."
With that kind of intellectualism being taught as faith, it doesn't surprise me that so many people believe harmful propaganda. They've been taught that God will be angry with them if they use their own brains and trust their guts.
Get a megaphone and say that again for the hard of hearing!
